GE Digital connects streams of machine data to powerful analytics providing insights to manage assets and operations more efficiently. Simultaneously the cyber team’s goal is to secure GE’s services and systems at the highest level. We wanted to create a unique space for GE Digital, that derives from its world of concepts, and to devise a distinctive design language and physical design elements.
This is the connection between the real visible world of heavy industry and the hidden virtual-digital world that designs and creates an unseen network of protection, behind the visible world.
The design of the workspace reflects a translation of the software world into physical space through partitions, lighting, and artistic installations. Oak rulers integrated with frames create partitions that evoke streaming data, enhancing spatial dynamism. Lighting fixtures symbolize the binary language of software, providing optimal lighting for workspaces and creating distinct atmospheres. Decorative lighting inspired by turbines represents the machine world and is placed in public areas like the cafeteria and game rooms.
A central wall in the lobby features an artist’s installation that blends video art and static elements, connecting the software and machine worlds with glass tubes that fill with data and machinery elements.
The cafeteria’s design is inspired by information layers forming a virtual grid, translated into a physical grid that extends over the outer screen wall and cabinets, creating shelves, planters, tables, and benches for employee use.
